Elisabeth Schimana uses live electronic and acoustic elements. Project Skin Body consists sonically of “broken” rhythms, constantly oscillating membranes and diverse modulated levels of generated sound patterns, which the artist produces by playing the cello and electronic instruments. A sonic treat for bodily music tasting.

noid – his musical approach can be described as fundamental research and his works span a wide range of contradictory outcome, from solos to compositions for ensembles, from sound installations to videos. He uses electronics as well as acoustical instruments, consequently denying the borderline between music and sound-art.

Electric indigo plays live multi-channel solo concerts of avant-garde electronic music or live-sets for dance floors. She loves to perform live alongside Pia Palme with experimental improvised music. Naturally, she is also a DJ.
MFRU festival and PostArtLab are establishing an experimental environment that introduces new methodologies and epistemologies of creating and discovering nature […]

MFRU festival and PostArtLab are establishing an experimental environment that introduces new methodologies and epistemologies of creating and discovering nature on the level of senses (hearing, smell, taste, sight, touch). By mixing electronics, electronic music and organic matter we are creating art that reveals the complex relations between technology and the concepts of nature, which – under the influence of evolution – is constantly changing, just like the human kind.

The project addresses intermedia conceptual approaches and encourages transdisciplinary collaboration and an interlacement of contemporary technologies, sounds and visual images. It also attempts to create an open dialog about the relationship between artificial and natural environments that are accessible to everyone and improve the quality of living.

VJPostArtLAb are: Monika Pocrnjić, Jerneja Rebernak, Barbara Seme, Daša Slavič

Monika Pocrnjić (1987) is in her final year of Fine Arts Pedagogics studies at the Faculty of Education Maribor. She is currently developing the PostArtLab within the GT22 premises, aiming to actively explore the value of an aesthetic dimension which defines art as a communication experience. She collaborates with Maribor’s Multimedia Center Kibla, GT22, Sonček Association from Ptuj (special pedagogics and fine arts therapy), Biomodd team and with SGMK – Swiss Mechatronic Art Society.

Jerneja Rebernak graduated in communicology (University of Ljubljana) and has a MA degree in Media studies (University of Amsterdam). She worked at the Asian-European Foundation in Singapore and the European Cultural Foundation in the Netherlands. She spent the last two years with the Maribor 2012 institute as a coordinator for the international program Cultural Embassies. Since February 2013 she acts as program manager at the Cultural Center of European Space Technologies (KSEVT) in Vitanje. As part of GT22 she contributes to the creative work in PostArtLab, a research and creative lab for the promotion of knowledge, networks, AV and DIY hacker experiments.

Barbara Seme is a student of art pedagogy, actively working as a mentor for children’s programs, project leader of student actions and head of numerous visual art workshops, and contributing to the organization of other cultural events. Her current activities involve working at Art Gallery Maribor – Maistrova Residency, volunteering at the Hiša! Association and collaborating with the PostArtLab team, GT22. Her work has been presented in eight group exhibitions, including one abroad.

Daša Slavič is a bohemian travelling artist working in Ljutomer, Maribor and Ljubljana. She works with all graphic techniques, explores unbridled children’s linear drawings and uses primitive-naive art forms in painting. A great fan of the sculpture stand, ceramics and hand-made jewelry from natural materials. She is also into microcosmic video projections – the so-called VJ-performance, photography, poetry, comic books. A (former) student of art pedagogy in Maribor, who prefers the non-academic ways and often exchanges college lectures for a walk in the forest to do some land art, play the flute on the city streets, or write verses for her unrequited love.

DJ Damir Pečnik f.k.a. D’Sun makes a comeback at the music scene following a 5 year break. The fusion of funk and experimental music, upgraded by Damir’s characteristic creative spark and collaborative collision with Monika Pocrnjić’s visual world, will ignite goose bumps in visitors and provide for a unique setting of this year’s MFRU-KIBLIX festival.

The art of playing music – not only the scene of it but also the waves of digital music and thermal conditions of synthesized sounds, typical of Nineties and substantiated by visual effects along with animated subversive undertones, returns once again to our city, as well as to our general consciousness.

The project capitalizes on the acoustics typical of plastic wire 3D printing processes. Two printers will be printing two different objects, causing different sound effects, but due to the typical repetitive movements there is a chance of occasional synchronicity. The rhythmic background is enhanced by the performance of a drummer. The entire performance is topped off by a video projection consisting of 3D animations and a live captured recording.

The story of 3D printing began in 1986 with the invention of stereolitography, which uses thermal lasers to manufacture individual forms from raw materials. This gave rise to the development of 3D printer models that represent modern-day desktop printers or “personal factories”. Today, 3D printers are the technology that anticipates some of future’s greatest changes. The expectations are immense: manufacturing of clothes, medicine, food and even human organs. The scheduled program will shed some light on the possibilities of 3D technologies and their creative use.

A creative party in search of new ideas for improved, more appealing and interesting video games of the upcoming decade will take place as an addition to the Gaming Lounge and it will also provide an opportunity for socializing of enthusiasts and everyone interested in the depths and progress within the medium of video games. Relaxation will be obtained through “party” games; the latter are able to expand the ordinary use of computer technology and mark its path into the environment of group gaming and socializing in public places. Popular video games cover songs, collected in OverClockedReMix, will provide an adequate musical background.

“In the Festival I will present the audiovisual work trAnsCodE, a work based in the transduction of digital data into audio and video. What fascinates me the most from digital media, is having the possibility to transform whatever you can decode into 0 and 1, and been able to dump it into different shapes and even formats (audio can be turned into image, DNA from a cauliflower into a sonora piece…)”

The sound-video performance echo 10-9 takes place on the nano and microlevel. With a clear analog esthetic it demonstrates the formal characteristics of materials, which are transformed on the spot, creating ambient a/v landscapes.

The development of the echo 10-9 project is based on research and experiments with nanobots, which create their own choreography in relation to different micro- and macrofluids, nanomaterials and magnetic reaction fields, in unison with physical and chemical effects. With their interventions, the authors stimulate the self-generated or autopoetic chemical reactions on multiple levels, influencing the sonic composition and choreography between the nanobots.

The combination of physics, chemistry and computer vision creates an immersive environment and reveals invisible fields that create (auto)poetic effects with the sensory experience. By expanding the sensory specter the performance challenges the question of perception and arouses the idea of small-size worlds with different laws, co-existing on different levels – like an insight into a new dimension, or having the possibility to think the world differently.
